With Blue's father in prison for selling marijuana and his mother estranged for over the last seven years, Blue is doing well, all considering. As the second addition to the not-so-nuclear Dixon family of Lisa, her ten-year-old son, Dwight, and the retired, Jewish introvert, Av, Blue finds himself living in a much better area of Halifax, Nova Scotia, going to a much better school and for the first time, actually applying himself academically as he struggles to fit in.
All that's soon threatened when Blue's estranged mother returns to take him away, and around the same time, he's harassed and threatened by his father's affiliation with the very dangerous, local biker gang to whom his father owes money.
Blue, his surrogate family, and Dwight's recent overachieving classmate/friend, Lyon, are forced to deal with the quickly escalating problems that threaten both the family unit and its members.
ABOUT THE SERIES
Taking place in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the series follows the sometimes amusing and sometimes heartbreaking events following an extremely introverted old Jewish man's retirement as he reluctantly befriends a young and struggling single mother, her naive and lonely son, and then, lastly, a boy streetwise beyond his years.

After reading the third book in the Off Herring Cove Road series by Michael Kroft, I am saddened that there won't be any more books to continue with these characters that I have grown to love so much! The books were funny and sad, hopeful and nostalgic. They satisfied my need for mystery, yet they were sensitive. The sweet relationships among the characters touched my heart. The books were entertaining and the pace was steady. What a joy to read these books. I am looking forward to reading the prequel coming out soon!Product details

A fun read if you've started with his first herring rd book.
Also, has a lot of typos or left out words. Good for Jr high except for the violent parts. Has great character development!
Like the previous two books in this series, this book did not disappoint. Well worth reading(them all).
Enjoyed entire series read them all.
This was a wonderful series. I didn't go on because I do not like to go back in time. After the end of this book, I had no desire to go on.
Excellent continuation of a saga involving people of different cultures, etc. Read the entire five books. Enjoy!
The first book was the most positive, even though that went down hill fast. It did make me want to find out what happened in the next book. Each book has been increasingly negative with surplus profanity and violence including child molestation, drugs, gangs and murder. None of the first three books in the series are an uplifting read. I wish I had not read them.
Once again, Michael Kroft has delivered a heart pounding, mind boggling thrill ride. So many ups and downs. So many twists and turns. Just when you think the ride is finally over, another loop pulls you out of your seat. It's only at the end do you notice the tightness in your chest and the tears in your eyes.
The characters could be anyone, from anywhere, drawn together by a need to feel safe. A need to feel secure. A need to know there's someone there, standing beside you. A need for family.
